On a bright sunny Marathon Day in downtown Boston, Dick’s Sporting Goods House of Sport opened its doors to the public. The months-long demolition and construction of the new sporting destination had wrapped up in grand fashion with the recladding of the old Lord & Taylor building at 760 Boylston Street. Working with an existing structure, the architects, Bergmeyer, sought a combination of durability for the heavily trafficked location and a lightweight façade to avoid adding unnecessary dead loading to the building. Finally, the cladding was selected to aesthetically achieve the stadium-esque feel of the beloved Dick’s Sporting Goods brand. The new Dick’s House of Sport showcases new colors and a three-dimensional brick design with stretcher bonds and soldier course details. House of Sport is more than just a store. It is a destination, an experience, a place where athletes can experiment and play.
